Yesterday, I ran into the 0xdecafbad blog. For those of you who don’t have to wade in computer code every day, 0xdecafbad is a hexadecimal number, and since it also spells out a name, we programmers consider it irresistibly funny. (What can I say… Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life ;). If you’re interested in more detail, there’s an decent explanation on Wikipedia.
Anyway, I was fascinated and wanted to try if I could get one of those addresses. 0xcafebabe and 0xdeadbeef are popular favorites. So I went off to godaddy. Obviously, they were already taken, but the search page had a tab entitled ’smart search’. Trying that out led to hours of fun - it plays free association with words found in your domain name. cafebabe lead to the upper class versions “coffeeclubgirl.com”, “bookcafelady.com”, the slightly raunchier “barfoxygirl.com” and the rather strange “bluedinerlady.com”.
Intrigued, I tried deadbeef. Now here, the search really shines. Among the favorites “withdeadpower.com” (!?), “yourdeadmeat.com”, “expiredmeat.com”, “godeadmeat.com”, and “defunctbeef.com”. And, again with the strangeness, “coldstrength.com”. (One wonders who makes those associations).
So what’s your favorite association?
defunct beef? brilliant.
0xfeedface gives me imagery-rich “consumevisage.com” and “eatyourfront.com,” plus “bestfoodkisser.com” which I would actually like to see.
