While the new release is brewing (give it a few more weeks!), I’ve created an interim version that fixes a most annoying bug – you couldn’t create all-day events by clicking in the calendar. Apologies it took so long – I got sidetracked a bit.

It will also give you a more detailed report when it can’t start up, allowing me to easily diagnose what’s probably the most common problem with all of iCalFix: The accidental double install. To install over any pre-0.6 versions, you must remove both /Library/InputManagers/iCalFix and ~/Library/InputManagers/iCalFix and everything contained in those directories. If you don’t, there’s a chance OSX will pick your old iCalFix and complain it doesn’t have a compatible version.

And in case you’re curious what 0.7 will bring, there are two major items on the list: * Growl notifications for all events * Automatic alarms for Todo’s that have a date set

Expect it to come to a browser near you May ‘07.

Thanks you the man! Works like a charm. Can’t wait for Growl :)

Thanks for this great little plug-in. I’d just like to add a vote to a feature request that was made in the 0.5 comments:

    • Add alarms to events from subscribed calendars.

Like the other poster, I need to add alarms to events I’m pulling from a shared GoogleCalendar, but have no way to do that through the iCal interface. I’m not sure if this is something that iCal can even be made to do, but if so this feature would be amazing.

    Thanks again! Adam

Hey, just found iCalFix and it is nice. I came across it in my search for a plug-in that would improve the choice of “snooze” options in the alarm. I really like Entourage’s ability to remind “at the end of the day” or “tomorrow morning”. And I find iCal’s “repeat in 1 minute” useless. You interested in hacking iCal a bit more to improve upon the reminder selection? If not, you know of any other iCal plug-ins or hacks that might?

Thanks for making this improvement available.

Is there a way to set two alarms on the same calendar event/ I would like to have a popup on my screen and also run a script to email my cell phone, in case I am away from the computer?

    Hi,

You’ve made excellent software!.. I wanted to contribute somehow, so I’ve made a Polish localization for iCalFix Please contact me through my email posted here, so I could send it to you, if You like of course.

    Hi Robert -

    Excellent fix!

Here’s a few suggestions for version 0.7 or later -

Make iCalFix work when you import a Calendar/.ics file… It would hopefully assign the default Alarm settings to imported events; I am presently exporting an .ics file From FileMaker 9 and double-clicking it to import it into a Calendar, but iCalFix does not create an alarm for the events I import.

Also, s there a way to enable/disable iCalFix without uninstalling it?

    Thanks!

    Greg

The fix is excellent. Please dont forget to include in the new version the auto-alarm in the events generated by birthdays created in the Contacts Library. Thanks Robert.

Wondering about uninstall – will removing the iCalFix folders in “InputManagers” folders remove all artifacts?

  10. Tom wrote on 03. Sep 2007

    Doesn’t work, doesn’t install, nothing happens.=(

This is the second mac I’ve tried to install this on with no success. Detailed documentation on how to install it would be great. I install the pkg and then what? Currently nothing happens.

Hi – That’s a great addition to iCal. One feature request: Would it be possible to allow more than one default alarm? For example, I always use at least two alarms for meetings, one at 2 hours and another one at 30 min before the event. I’m not sure, though, how many people use more than one alarm. Thanks for your consideration. Best – MM

I have to be blind and dumb, because I cannot see any icon for icalfix or figure any way to adjust the preferences.

I’ve found that using this version of iCalFix with the supported version of iCal doesn’t do anything. I have tried removing any old installations from the InputManager folders and re-installing 0.6.1. I find that I get the preference pane installed and everything. However, I don’t get any notifications, even when I have them set.

Robert- thank you for this plugin, I found it through 43folders, and it works perfectly. I would like to suggest that you post it to macupdate.com and/or versiontracker.com, so it’s easier to find when searching for Mac software :-)

Thanks so much for this. I have just made the move from a Microsoft-mail-client-that-may-not-be-named to Mail and iCal and have really missed this alarm functionality. Missed it so much that I missed a few meetings :)

Has there been a new release where there are alarms set for to-dos? I do not want to switch to Leopard yet and I would love this feature. You mentioned it was coming a year ago – am I just missing it?

  18. Dan Hawk wrote on 08. Mar 2008

Hey, I am also loving it, but was just wondering if there is a way for this plug-in to automatically add alarms/notification to items that are imported thru a Gcal subscription? If so, I’d be all set.

    thanks!

    Dan

    Hey Dan!

No, there’s currently no way to add Alarms to subscriptions, sorry.

Is version 0.6.1 supposed to work with Leopard? It appears to install properly but it doesn’t show up in iCal references.

  23. Dave Creek wrote on 16. Apr 2008

in my message of a few minutes ago “references” was supposed to be “Preferences.”

  24. Robert Blum wrote on 16. Apr 2008

    @Dave:

No, 0.6.1 is not working with Leopard, due to various reasons. See http://www.robertblum.com/articles/2007/10/16/ive-been-appled for more details

I’ve tentatively started working on a new approach, but don’t expect anything too soon.

Hi Robert. Just wondering whether it is or ever will be possible to create an alarm that would automatically come on when you switch on your mac the day before an event so that you don’t have to input any specific time. This would be so handy as Im sure many mac users want to be reminded of up and coming events without being tied to having the computer on at one specific time? Thank you very much.

  26. Administrator wrote on 26. May 2008

    Hi Steffan!

I’m not sure how easy that would be to add to iCal, but you might want to check out ‘Today’ : http://secondgearllc.com/today/

  27. Terrie Noll wrote on 23. Jun 2008

I’ve installed iCal Fix and was disappointed to learn that it just flashes a message but does not allow you to send an email. Since the whole reason for getting an alarm is to remember something, having one I dismiss and not a mail message in front of my face in my inbox is just as likely that the event will be forgotten when I’m giving myself a heads up the day before.

So, it would be really nice if one could choose the TYPE of notification. A dismissible alarm does me no good at all.
